Setup the Printer

Printing in Linux Computer

Linux Computers use the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) for printing. The software converts the print jobs from programs for the respective available printers. These can be connected locally or connected via the network.

Install CUPS

  1. Open terminal
  2. Run below command

sudo apt-get update

3. Run below command to install CUPS

sudo apt-get install cups

4. Create user and group

sudo adduser pi lpadmin

Setup printer

  1. Open your browser
  2. Go to below address

http://127.0.0.1:631

3. Click Add Printers and Classes

You have to enter your username and password on the pop-up screen after above process.

  1. Click Add Printer

  1. Chose you printer from list. If you have connected a printer, it will be displayed here. In this case click here.
  2. Click Continue

  1. Give a name your printer.
  2. Write a description about your printer.
  3. You can enter your location
  4. If you wish, you can set this printer as a sharing.
  5. Click Continue

  1. Click Set Default Options

You printer is ready to use. You can print by using your Raspberry Pi.
