Memory usage Analysis with Filelight

The Filelight masters the representation of the hard disk contents as a multi-layer diagram. With Filelight you can perform the most important functions: Read out memory contents, clearly display the results and delete memory space directly via the application.

Install Filelight

To install Fileligth on your Raspberry Pi, please follow below instructions:

  1. Open terminal
  2. Run below command

sudo apt-get update

3. Install Filelight with below command

sudo apt-get install filelight

If you see below question on the terminal during installation process, press Y.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

Open the Filelight

Follow the steps as showed below to open up the Filelight program.

  1. Click here the open Applications Menu
  2. Click Accessories
  3. Click Filelight

Overview of Flightlight

To access a memory layer below, click on the memory area 1 as shown in the picture.

  1. This space is your free space.
  2. Here is total space.
  3. Here is used space.
  4. This space is used for system files.

Analyzing used memory

You can understand how much gigabyte or megabyte the programs on your Raspberry Pi.

  1. Click the used space
  1. Move your mouse cursor over the block and wait here.
  2. A popup occurs and libreoffice is 257.2 MiB.

You can learn other programs’ space by moving mouse curser over blocks.
